Today is the Coptic New Year and, coincidentally, my birthday.
I’ve never really delved too deeply on what happens on September 11th, especially given the events on that day in 2001, however this year I decided to see what happened on this date in history. After going over the major events, I decided that most were pretty depressing – battles, wars, death, coups, etc… I thought I’d look at births and deaths to see if I’d actually heard of anyone who was born or died today. Here’s what I came up with:
Births:
- D. H. Lawrence – A British author
- Tom Landry – NFL Football Coach
- Brian de Palma – American Film Maker
- Mickey Hart – Percussionist and drummer for The Grateful Dead
- Brad Bird – Pixar animator and director
- Moby – Musician
- Harry Connick Jr. – Jazz musician
- Mike Comrie – NHL hockey player
Deaths:
- Billy Bishop – Canadian pilot who was the British Empire’s top ace in WW I
- Nikita Khrushchev – Former Premier of the Soviet Union
- Salvador Allende – Deposed President of Chile
- Lorne Green – The original Comander Adama
- Jessica Tandy – Miss Daisy
- Johny Unitas – A great NFL quarterback
- John Ritter – A well known TV actor
Not a bad list, eh? It’s more than I thought I would recognize. Anywho, I hope everyone has a very Happy Coptic New Year!
